The Christmas Crackers Carol Singers were formed (quite by accident really) in October of 1990.
At that time, I was in a business meeting with Peter Pike, then Centre Manager of Morley City Shopping Centre (now Centro Galleria), trying to secure a booking for my children’s entertainment show, ‘The Kangaroo Creek Gang’, over the Christmas school holiday period.
Peter informed me that he didn’t have a need for the show over Christmas, but that he had just been let down by a group of carol singers who had been booked but had told him that morning that they were unavailable. Consequently, the budget had been allocated but the carol singers had not.
Peter asked if I could put together a group of carol singers to perform for him and thus, the Christmas Crackers were born…
We have performed every year since then and demand for our services continues to grow, to the point where last year, we performed over 80 times in just under 3 weeks!
The group began with my own 4 daughters and 2 of their friends but as the years have gone by and my own children have grown up, I find myself with only one of the original members left…
So that is our story up to now… the show goes on and no doubt ‘The Christmas Crackers’ will be singing all their favourite carols (and yours) for many years to come.
